Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

Council is on the lookout for a skilled and forward‑thinking Cybersecurity Specialist to lead and strengthen our cybersecurity capability. In this pivotal role, you’ll be the guardian of our systems, data, and critical infrastructure—ensuring our digital environment remains secure, resilient, and future‑ready

 

In this role, you will:

  • Lead cybersecurity operations, monitoring threats and responding swiftly to incidents.
  • Oversee vulnerability management, patching, and security controls across systems and cloud environments.
  • Guide and implement cybersecurity strategy, governance, and policy.
  • Manage key vendor and SecOps relationships to ensure robust protections and continual improvement.
  • Drive cybersecurity education, capability uplift, and support disaster recovery planning.
  • Collaborate across teams to enhance maturity, minimise risks, and maintain trust in our digital services.

You’ll be motivated to protect critical services, support community outcomes, and help lift cybersecurity capability across an organisation that truly values its people.

 

You’ll bring to the table:

  • Proven experience in cybersecurity or IT operations (5+ years).
  • Strong technical expertise across threat detection, cloud security, identity management, and secure architecture.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand cybersecurity frameworks (NZISM, PSR, NCSC preferred).
  • Calm, analytical problem‑solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • A team mindset, strong stakeholder skills, and a passion for strengthening cyber resilience.
