Council is seeking a Landfill Planning & Projects Advisor, reporting to the Solid Waste Manager, you'll play a key role in developing and maintaining landfill management plans, aftercare plans, environmental compliance documentation, and operational improvement projects. You'll work closely with operational teams, consultants, contractors, regulators, iwi, and community stakeholders to ensure projects and plans are practical, compliant, and aligned with Council's environmental and operational objectives. 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing and maintaining landfill management, operational, environmental, and aftercare plans.
• Project managing landfill improvement, monitoring, remediation, and aftercare initiatives.
• Coordinating consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders.
• Developing project scopes, schedules, procurement documentation, risk registers, and reporting.
• Supporting environmental compliance, monitoring programmes, and audit readiness.
• Contributing to continuous improvement, environmental stewardship, and health and safety leadership.

This position is fixed-term for a period of 5 months

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you

You will be experienced in providing advice to support informed decision‑making, and in offering comprehensive guidance to both managers and employees.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

• At least five years' experience in environmental, infrastructure, landfill, asset management, planning, or project delivery environments.
• Experience preparing technical plans, compliance documentation, operational procedures, and project documentation.
• Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare reports and documentation for a range of audiences.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and deliver quality outcomes.
• A relevant qualification in environmental science, engineering, planning, project management, construction management, asset management, or a related discipline (preferred).
• A current full New Zealand driver's licence
