Picton Library and Service Centre | Waitohi Whare Mātauranga provides a wide range of collections, programmes, services, and spaces to support the community in relation to literacy, knowledge, information, research and study, recreation, and leisure activities.

 

We are seeking someone who not only has a passion for libraries but is positive, loyal and enthusiastic. The key focus of the Library Assistant role is to provide outstanding library service to patrons. As a Customer Service Officer, you will answer queries and provide information on Council’s services, receive payments  and overall provide excellent customer service. You will engage with the community, build relationships, and assist with everything from issuing and returning books to finding resources and answering basic computer questions.

 

This role is crucial to the smooth running of the Library and Service Centre’s operations. It involves a blend of in-person, phone, and digital interactions, so confidence across all these communication channels is essential.

The working hours for this position are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday and one in five weekends.

As the Library Assistant/ CSO you will display a high level of flexibility, excellent customer service skills, work well as part of a team, be confident with technology and enjoy a busy environment. You will be assisting with the provision of library circulation, reference services, computer support and frontline customer service. You’ll engage with the community, build relationships and assist with everything from issuing and returning books to finding resources and answering basic computer questions.

 

You’ll need to show us that you can:

  • Be customer focused
  • Be excited about providing welcoming and friendly service to all.
  • Be an organised, reliable and collaborative team player
  • Be technologically and systems competent
  • Have an understanding of library operations
  • Have excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
