Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

You will be part of the Nautical and Coastal team assisting with managing the safe and sustainable operation of the region’s harbours and coastlines. You will assist the Harbour master with monitoring of marine traffic, ensuring safe boating practices are being followed by those on the water.

 

The responsibilities include maintenance and servicing of navigation aids, assist with maritime safety activities, monitoring for compliance, assisting with scientific monitoring programmes, actioning water safety education, responding to maritime emergencies and performing maintenance and repairs of patrol vessels.      

 

This is a full-time position, based out of our Picton Office.

You will hold a Certificate of Competency appropriate for the role. You will be a reliable team player that can foster the energy and enthusiasm of a small but highly capable team. Ideally with strong administration and organisational skills to assist with the co-ordination and administration of the team.

 

You will have advanced knowledge of maritime navigation processes, maritime communications tools, and the devices used in the management and tracking of vessels both at sea and within coastal areas. You will also have a good understanding of the processes required to manage the operation and maintenance of Aids to Navigation. All while displaying a strong interest in coastal science and management of the coastal marine environment.

 

You will be physically fit and ready to work in isolated and remote environments when required. Your skills and experience will be matched by your ability to remain level-headed during emergencies. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and will be effective in addressing matters of maritime safety in a public forum, on a boat, at the boat ramp, or on the wharf.
