Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

Marlborough’s unique marine environment offers an exciting opportunity to apply your maritime skills while helping protect one of New Zealand’s most iconic coastal regions. As a Maritime Officer within Council’s Nautical and Coastal team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of our busy harbours and extensive coastline. Each day offers variety—from maintaining aids to navigation, supporting patrol activities and responding to maritime incidents, to engaging with the boating public and promoting safe boating practices across our community.

In this role, you’ll assist with vessel traffic oversight, respond to oil spills and other maritime emergencies, and contribute to essential education and compliance programmes that keep our waters safe for all users. You’ll also support the maintenance of patrol vessels and maritime infrastructure, conduct marine farming light audits, and help deliver Council’s responsibilities under the Resource Management Act. This work is hands‑on, meaningful, and deeply connected to the wellbeing of Marlborough’s people and environment.

This is a full-time position, based out of our Picton Office.
