We’re looking for a Development Engineer to join our Water Services team at an exciting time of transformation, as we design, model and future‑proof Marlborough’s water, wastewater and irrigation networks.
You’ll provide specialist expertise in hydraulic modelling, network analysis and system design across water supply, wastewater and irrigation schemes.
You will:
- Review and design new, upgraded and extended pipe networks using hydraulic models
- Maintain and develop hydraulic modelling tools, datasets and scenarios
- Analyse system performance, Fire flows, growth projections and climate impacts
- Help establish modelling standards, design metrics and Levels of Service
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to colleagues
- Coordinate modelling workloads and work alongside consultants and IT teams
- Support planning, growth, and subdivision-related infrastructure decisions
- Contribute to reports, contract documentation and project programming
This role offers a balance of technical depth, collaboration, and strategic influence, without being focused on detailed civil design.

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you
You’ll be a confident, curious engineer who enjoys working with data, models and people.
This role requires someone with:
- A Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Natural Resources)
- Around 5+ years’ experience in hydraulic modelling of water and wastewater systems
- Strong capability with industry-standard modelling software, Excel and GIS
- A solid grounding in hydraulic and hydrological theory
- A passion for pipeline networks — both pressure and gravity systems
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences
- A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for mentoring and continuous improvement
Postgraduate study, technical papers or advanced modelling/programming skills are an advantage, but not essential.
