Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
As the Senior Projects Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in designing and managing the technical aspects of upgrades and renewals to Council’s water and sewerage infrastructure, including pump stations, pipelines and treatment plants. You’ll work closely with other engineers and operations staff and manage the talented project team to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality projects on time and within budget.
Your day to day will include:
- Management: Manage a small team of project engineer
- Project Planning and Coordination: Scope new projects & write project plans.
- Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitoring costs, tracking expenses, and ensuring projects stay on budget.
- Technical Support and Guidance: Providing engineering expertise, solving complex technical issues, and ensuring that project requirements are met.
- Risk Management: Identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation approaches to ensure smooth delivery
- Collaboration: Working closely with subcontractors, landowners & public, and internal teams to ensure clear communication and effective project execution.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Promoting and enforcing health and safety standards on site.

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you
This role requires someone with:
- A Tertiary Qualification: either BE (Civil), NZCE (Civil) or NZ Diploma in Engineering
- Strong Engineering Background: minimum 6 years’ experience in civil engineering, preferably in a water supply or wastewater fields.
- Technical Expertise: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Management: Experience in managing and mentoring staff.
- Project Management Skills: Experience in managing project timelines, budgets, and resources efficiently.
- Cost Control Experience: Demonstrated ability to manage costs and track project finances accurately.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills to identify issues early and implement practical solutions.
