Mo tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Tradewaste & Backflow Officer to join our team and help manage the integrity of our wastewater network. You’ll play a key role in assessing and managing tradewaste discharges and backflow risks to ensure compliance and safeguard our sewer network and treatment processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess tradewaste discharge applications and renewals, evaluating their impact on the sewer network and treatment systems.
- Conduct risk assessments for potential boundary backflow events and determine appropriate mitigation measures.
- Perform basic field tests and measurements using mobile scientific instruments, including maintenance and calibration.
- Ensure timely and accurate collection and delivery of tradewaste samples to laboratories or couriers.
- Collect and input field data into Council’s data management systems (Lutra & AMIS).
- Support the water meter reading schedule as required.

Ko ngā wheako ōu | About you
Ideally you will hold Water and environmental unit standards, and/or have a minimum of 4 years relevant experience. While hopefully having a basic understanding of wastewater asset installations.
This role requires someone with:
- A strong understanding of wastewater systems and environmental compliance.
- Experience with field testing equipment and data collection.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support wider operational needs.
